It's asparagus season!! Get our delicious home-grown spears while you can - asparagus is only available until mid-June. It's very versatile and goes with lots and lots of dishes, plus it's super-tasty, and full of good vitamins and minerals.

 

Because it has been so wet and cold so far in 2013, we are sorry but there is only a limited supply of asparagus in the farm shop. Fingers crossed for more sunshine to make it grow a bit faster.

 

It's not just the Church Farm staff who think that our asparagus is the best in the North West. It won the 2009 Fine Food North West award for Best Fruit or Vegetable.

 

Our asparagus is hand-cut, graded and bagged every day so it's as fresh and delicious as possible. We may have samples in the farm shop for you to try.

Another good way to cook asparagus is steaming. Just for a couple of minutes, be careful not to overcook.

Yes, this is how asparagus grows! We have to bend down and cut the stalk under the ground with a sharp knife to harvest the spears. It's very labour-intensive but definitely worth it for the flavour. med_asparagus_3
